To all potential Mother's Ruggers:
The Mary Washington Rugby Club (aka “The Mothers”) has a long and storied history of producing champions. We practice and play at the Battlefield, probably the best rugby facility in the Mid-Atlantic, certainly in the VRU. We supply our players with the best coaching, equipment, and facilities and expect them to be the best. The Mother's program has produced US Eagles, many participants in the college All-American program, numerous VRU/ERU/MARFU all-stars, many championships, and most importantly great teammates and alumni. We toured Ireland in 2010 with 57 players and alums and will be touring Wales this coming spring in 2012. We host numerous guest coaches in addition to our internationally-trained coaching staff. We play annually in the Ed Lee Cup as well as at least one spring tournament and always field at least 2 competitive sides. This fall (2011) we will be competing in both D2 and D3, fielding 3 full sides every weekend. Last fall both of our first sides in D2 and D3 advanced to the national playoffs - our D2 side beating Villanova in Philly and then losing a very competitive match to Salisbury who was a final 4 team. We finished the spring ranked #12 nationally in D2.
We are excited to welcome corporate sponsors for the first time this year as Coldwell Banker Elite and Home Team Grill insure that all of our players will have new, state of the art equipment/kit and that we have a phyisical therapist available to the team.
Our players are a mix of experienced veterans, great atheletes in their first few years of rugby, and new ruggers to the university that played in high school. We pride ourselves on inclusion and taking care of our own – we have unequaled teamwork on and off the field and an excellent job placement program after graduation through our 30 years of alumni. We need you to contribute to our future and become one of our team.
To learn more about UMW please go to www.umw.edu. The university is an amazing value and the academics are well-regarded. We were recently ranked #5 in our class by US News and World Report. Forbes rated UMW as the 13th best public college in its second annual listing of “America’s Best Colleges.” If you have not seen the campus we encourage you to do so - it speaks for itself.
