Alumni Game: We have an alumni game every spring now and I posted the picture from 2008 above.  The next alumni game is Feb 13^th, 2010 at the Battlefield.  This fall (2010) the alumni game will be on homecoming weekend for the first time in years.  For more details on the alumni games email jcarter75@aol.com

Please donate to “Men’s Rugby” through the UMW Foundation: If you want to make donations they are tax-deductible and can be made to the “UMW Foundation” – please be sure to put “Men’s Rugby” and let me know via email to look for it.  We have fallen far behind other VA schools in fund raising both on our own and through alumni, although we have really caught up in the last year. The players have picked up their efforts and we are on the right track – the alums can always help.  Some immediate needs are funding for coaching clinics, a new scrum sled and an actual scoreboard/clock at the field.  No donations go to player entertainment or amusement – they are all for capital improvement, coaching development or immediate club hardware needs.  Recent alumni contributions have ranged from helping a student find an internship, to buying the team Gatorade, to a $500 donation.

Career Services: If your business/companies have summer internships please let us know. We have almost 50 students on the current team and they are all eager for experience.  Please go out of your way just a bit and reach out to them - imagine what it was like when you graduated from college and how nice it would be to have someone help you out.  If you are hiring we have many alums who would like to know about it and have backgrounds similar to yourself.  I will make our email list available to you.

Alumni Contacts: I have over 250 contacts total and you can just email me if you would like to get match reports.  Right now the best way to get in touch with lost teammates is to go to the facebook site, request admission and I will admit you.  You must request membership but it is easy.  You must have a Facebook  ID – got to the search function and type in “UMW MWC Rugby Alumni Forum”.  We have over 140 members on the site and lots of old pictures.

Doc Warner: If you would like Doc’s contact info I have that as well. He is retired in Asheville, NC and his still helping the club with recruiting and campus relations.

If you have alumni pictures, stories, or memorabilia we would like to post them on the facebook site/website – please email me.  I have a pristine “hoops” jersey that we will be putting in a trophy case at the school as well as the Michelob Cup, the 91 Ed Lee Cup, the SE Region Qualifier and the 2008 Ed Lee Cup.  I am still trying to recover the Cherry Blossom Plate we won in 95.  If you have old trophies we would love to add them to our display which will likely be in the “new” Goolrick Student Fitness Center.

In summary, please stay in touch and volunteer.  I have seen many of you out recently.  We lost quite a few years where records were not kept, recruiting and participation was not at current levels and alumni involvement was non-existent.  This will never happen again as we have at least 8-10 alumni events per year, the team is 50 strong and we are both recruiting before they get to the Mother’s and placing team members in jobs after they leave.  We have delegated tasks so that each person's role is manageable and we now see successes building upon each previous success.  All of this is producing wins on and off the field – we would like for you to get involved and stay involved.
